Tan Sri Dr. Othman Bin Yeop Abdullah

Tan Sri Dr. Othman Yeop Abdullah was born on the 13th of September 1941 in Alor Setar, Kedah. He received his secondary education at the Sultan Abdul Hamid College, Alor Setar. He went for further studies at the University of Malaya and graduated in 1965 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Management. Later he continued his studies at the London School of Economics, United Kingdom, graduated with an Advance Diploma in Development Administration. Subsequently, he enrolled himself at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1976 for a Master's degree in Management. In 1984, he graduated with a Doctorate in Management from the University of California (Irvine), USA.

Tan Sri Dr. Othman Yeop is also a well-known intellectual, whose thoughts have been published in many articles, books and magazines, and among them are 'Developing Corporate Strategies for Public Enterprises' (1978), 'Strengthening the Evaluation System for Rural Development Programme in Asia' (1982), 'Improving Efficiency and Service of Public Sector' (1978), 'Allocation of Functions and Responsibilities Between Levels of Governments in Malaysia' (1987), 'Modernizing the Administrative Machinery to provide the Critical Support' (1988), 'Human Resource Development for Industrialization' (1990), and 'The Impacts of Information Technology on Human Society' (1991).

In appreciation of his services and contributions, he was bestowed a number of awards, among which are the Kesatria Mangku Negara (K.M.N.) in 1978, the Dato' Setia DiRaja Kedah (D.S.D.K.) in 1989, the Johan Mangku Negara (J.M.N.) in 1989 and the Panglima Setia Mahkota (P.S.M.), which carries the title Tan Sri.

In the academic field, he was awarded the Alfred P. Solan Fellowship by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1975-76, the 'Chancellor's Patent Fund Award' by the University of California, Irvine, USA in 1983-84, the 'Honorary Doctorate of Science Degree' by the Loughbrough University and an 'Honorary Doctorate in Information Technology by the Northern University of Malaysia (UUM).
